On-line Voting Instructions for All St. Paul Public/Charter/Private Secondary Schools

Middle, Junior High and Senior High Schools.

Middle school, junior and senior high schools students may vote online in the 2007 Kids Voting election.

Prior to Election Day, November 6th, you should:1) On this web site, access the ‘Curriculum’ button and download the curriculum.  Prior to the election, share the portions of the curriculum appropriate to the level of your students.

On Election Day:

Note: On-line voting hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Election Day, November 6.

The official Kids Voting USA - Saint Paul ballot can be accessed for voting during those hours at http://vote.spps.org on Election Day.

This is our suggested method for on-line voting at your school:

1) The teacher or staff person overseeing the voting should log onto the on-line ballot at http://vote.spps.org.   It is suggested that you hide the Address Bar in Internet Explorer. This will make it harder for students to find the web address and enter multiple votes outside of your classroom. These are the instructions for hiding the tool bar for various computers:

MAC Platform

OSX

Firefox - Click on View > Toolbar; Click on the toolbars with the checkmark to remove them.

Explorer - Click on View > remove the checkmark from Address bar, Button bar, and Favorites bar

Safari - Click on View > hide address bar

OS 9

Explorer - Click on View > remove the checkmarks from Address bar, Button bar, and Favorites bar

PC Platform

Explorer - Click on View > Toolbars; Remove the checkmark from Address, Button, and Favorites bars

The computer is now ready for voting.  If you are using multiple computers, you need to do this for each computer.

2) Someone (teacher, student or volunteer) should organize the voting in an orderly manner so that students can vote only once and the waiting time for voting is minimized.

3) The student is then shown to an available computer to vote, making sure the computer is ready for the voter. If multiple students will be voting on the same computer, the volunteer will click on the “Next Voter Click Here!” link to see the ballot on the screen.

4) Using the online ballot, students will make their selections for the various offices and click on ‘finish’ when they are done. They will see the “Thank you for Voting” screen.

A short time after the polls close at 3:00 p.m. on Election Day the results of the secondary student voting will be available on the http://vote.spps.org and www.kidsvotingstpaul.com web site.
